The wait for the Hindi version of Kannada film
Godhi Banna Sadharana Mykattu, also known as GBSM, has finally ended with
Prakash Rai bagging the Hindi remake rights of the hit film. The actor-director-producer had earlier picked up the remake rights of the film for Tamil and Telugu. Rai had said he was interested in remaking the film in Hindi as well but only if
Amitabh Bachchan agreed to play the lead role.
The
Rakshit Shetty- and
Anant Nag-starrer, which is seeing a great run at the
Sandalwood box office, has been in the `remake' news for the last two weeks.
Besides Rai, producer
Boney Kapoor had reportedly evinced interest in remaking GBSM in Hindi. However, Kapoor denied reports, categorically, that he had eyed the Hindi remake rights of the film. Speaking to
Bangalore Mirror, Kapoor said: 'There were reports about me buying the remake rights of the film. I never spoke to the filmmakers let alone meet them in Bengaluru. I have no idea about the film being made in Hindi.'
There were also reports that Tamil director
Murugadoss was also trying to acquire the Hindi remake rights of the film. However, with Rai now acquiring the rights, fans of Amitabh might have something to cheer about. We will have to wait for the makers to make an announcement in that regard.
Meanwhile, GBSM is continuing its golden run at the box office. The film, directed by Hemanth Rao and produced by Pushkar Mallikarjunaiah, released in the US last weekend and trade reports suggest that it has become the second Kannada film to go past the $1,00,000 mark at box office there.
